Once upon a time…
The Academy of Art University had one sound booth and not much else. It was 2012, and Matty Staudt a podcasting pioneer at Stitcher and iHeartRadio and AAU’s newest COM professor wanted to change that by creating a tiered program that introduced students to radio and podcasting.
AAU became one of the first universities in the United States to offer multiple classes in podcast creation, production, and promotion.
In addition to the podcasting classes, a third class was created that focused 100% on running and producing shows and podcasts. This became the core of Urban Knights Radio and its tradition of only airing student-hosted shows.
Today, Urban Knights Radio is heard around the world and is one of iHeartRadio’s top college radio stations.
